Sídney (Australia), 31 jul (.).- Australia, Estados Unidos y Japón buscan formar una asociación trilateral para invertir en infraestructura y promover el desarrollo económico y la paz en la región Indo-Pacífico, informaron hoy fuentes oficiales.

«Esta asociación representa nuestro compromiso con la región Indo-Pacífico para que sea libre, abierta y próspera», según un comunicado del Ministerio de Exteriores de Australia, la Corporación de Inversiones Privadas en el Extranjero (OPIC) y el Banco para la Cooperación Internacional de Japón.

Los proyectos se centrarán en infraestructuras y en los sectores de energía, transporte, turismo y tecnología que ayude a estabilizar las economías y ampliar la conectividad, entre otros.

La asociación se apoya en un memorando de entendimiento para apoyar las inversiones en infraestructuras en la región Indo-Pacífico suscrita entre el Ministerio de Exteriores de Australia y la OPIC durante la visita a Washington del primer ministro australiano, Malcolm Turnbull, en febrero pasado.
